Panel members for Schools’ Independent Appeal Panels (Voluntary role)
Do you have excellent interpersonal skills, an ability to listen to peoples’ viewpoints and make balanced decisions?
Would you like to become involved in a vital and impartial service provided to parents and schools?
Then why not apply to become a member of the Herefordshire schools’ independent appeals panels?
We are looking for volunteers who either have experience in education or are lay people with no educational background and who would like to serve on the appeal panels for Herefordshire.
Admission appeals panels consider appeals by parents or carers whose children have been refused admission to their preferred school. Members of the independent panels consider the cases put forward by the parents and the schools and decide whether or not the appeal should be upheld.
Exclusion independent review panels consider appeals by parents or carers whose children have been permanently excluded from a school. The panel considers the decision of the school’s governing body to permanently exclude a child, and decides whether to uphold their decision or direct the governing body to reconsider its decision.
We’d particularly like to hear from you if you have recent past experience as a head teacher or are a school governor.
These are unpaid roles but expenses will be reimbursed. Appeals take place during the working day, mostly during the school term times, and you a free to accept or refuse any panel dates offered to you. Initial and refresher training will be provided.
There is more information in our panel member information sheet, or for an informal enquiry, please email email@example.com
If you would like to apply, please return a completed application form by 25 April 2022.
